The Craft, Materials and Custom Work
Our Materials & Standards
M33Ms Atelier is based in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. Every piece is handmade, and all work is individually hand-finished — meaning no two pieces will ever be exactly identical.
A Small Business, Made with Intention
M33Ms is not commercially mass-produced, which means production is thoughtful, quantities are sometimes limited, and timelines reflect the care that goes into each piece rather than the speed of a factory floor. When you shop M33Ms, you're supporting a one-woman studio in Honolulu that puts real time, skill, and heart into everything it makes.
Gemstones
As a Graduate Gemologist (GIA), I believe in full transparency when it comes to the stones I set. M33Ms jewelry uses natural gemstones, and will disclose the relevant details for stones whenever possible —including known treatment history, origin if available, and anything else you deserve to know before making a decision.
It's worth knowing: heat treatment is standard practice across the colored gemstone industry. In fact, approximately 85-95% of the world's colored stones like rubies and sapphires are heat treated to enhance color and clarity — it's widely accepted and does not diminish a stone's natural origin or value. What I do not use are irradiated or dyed stones. If a gemstone is lab-grown, that will always be clearly disclosed.
For diamonds, M33Ms works with both natural and carbon-neutral lab-grown diamonds. For custom and engagement work, diamonds are sourced with certification from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) — the most respected grading authority in the world. Origin certification is also available upon request.
All accent stones in existing designs use VS clarity, G+ color lab diamonds and/or natural rubies and sapphires. Natural Diamonds if requested.
Metals
All metals used in M33Ms jewelry are recycled and ethically sourced. I source my materials and wires from suppliers who hold SCS-certified 100% recycled content and are certified members of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), with metals sourced exclusively through refiners on the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) good delivery list, ensuring traceable, conflict-free supply chains.
M33Ms works in Sterling Silver 925, 14kt Gold, 18kt Gold, and Platinum.
I also accept gold from clients as a form of payment. All gold brought in will be tested and weighed, and its value based on that day's spot price will be applied toward your purchase. It's a meaningful way to give your old gold a new life.
A Note on Sterling Silver
Sterling silver naturally oxidizes over time — the metal may darken due to contact with skin, moisture, or air. This is completely normal and does not affect the value or integrity of the piece. It can easily be cleaned or polished to restore its original finish.
Custom Work
Custom work at M33Ms is a deeply personal, start-to-finish collaboration — beginning from a completely blank canvas. From initial consultation and hand sketching, to 3D design and rendering, revisions, stone sourcing, custom stone cutting, and final fabrication, every step is handled with full attention and intention. It is some of the most involved and time-intensive work I do, and custom pricing reflects that investment.
Please note that custom work is distinct from modified jewelry. Modified pieces are adapted from existing designs; true custom work means building something entirely new — just for you.
The M33Ms Custom Calendar
Custom work follows a dedicated season on the M33Ms annual calendar. Consultations and new custom projects open in January each year, during the first half of the year when full focus can be devoted to each client's vision.
From summer through the holiday season, the studio shifts its focus to special events, building collection inventory, and developing new works for the line.
The next custom opening is January 2027. If you're considering a custom piece, I warmly encourage you to reach out in December to book your spot — appointments are limited and fill quickly.
CLEANING & CARE
Cleaning-Clear Liquid soap
Use warm water, liquid soap, and a light tapping with a toothbrush for cleaning diamond jewelry and removing accumulated lotion and debris.
Preserving Shine (silver)
Wearing your jewelry often may be one of the best ways to keep it looking beautiful and reduce tarnish buildup. Natural oils in your skin can help prevent tarnishing; however, everyone's body chemistry is different, so tarnish from sweat or new medication is possible. If you don't wear your silver every day, storing it in a dry, cool place will help prevent darkening. Silver may tarnish, especially in humid weather, so if pieces have darkened over time, please clean them with the polishing cloth included in your purchase.
Polishing Cloth
Polishing cloths are pre-treated and impregnated with special micro-abrasives and cleansing agents. They safely remove tarnish and minor surface scratches from jewelry.
How to Use:
-
Ensure your item is free of dust or sand to prevent scratching the surface.
-
Rub the surface gently on the inner white cloths using medium pressure.
-
The cloth will turn black or grey as it removes the tarnish; keep using it until it is completely darkened or worn through.
-
Wipe the polished item with the outer layer to remove any residual compound.
Important Rules
-
Do not wash the cloth. Washing it will strip the embedded polishing compounds and ruin its effectiveness.
-
Not recommended for plated jewelry, pearls, coral, and soft stones. The micro-abrasives can strip away thin plating and dull soft organic material.
Storage
There are jewelry cases you can purchase that are available to prevent silver from tarnishing, or you may use a mini plastic zip bags with a moisture absorbing silicone pack inside to help the piece from tarnishing quickly.
CAUTION
Chemicals
Please keep all jewelry away from harsh chemicals, bleaches, sulfur hot tubs, and mineral springs. Using harsh chemicals may damage the metal, add/remove oxidation, and damage the stones.
Natural Hot Springs
Please avoid hot tubs or natural hot springs; sulfur in the water will tarnish the silver. If items are darkened with accidental exposure, polishing is recommended.
